Logger Assistant Issue with Gathering Information

April 16, 2010

UPDATE: Fixes for recent versions of the programs have been released. Please find the update details here for Coin Logger and here for Cache Logger.

Today an issue was brought to the attention of GcSoft that the registered versions of the programs Coin Logger Assistant and Cache Logger Assistant had recently started reporting empty spaces for the summary information, and the direct log entry link for Coin Logger was not working when this happened.  The problem has been replicated, and it’s possible the geocaching site has made recent changes that will require changes to how the programs obtain information (a similar situation occurred in January).  Until a reliable solution can be determined and incorporated into the programs, a work around has been found that seems to fix the problem.

If you run the program in non-simple mode but the summary information for each item is empty, please try the following.

1) Choose Internet Explorer as the web browser and click “View HTML Output” to open the output file that was created.
2) Click on the link for any cache/trackable (not the log entry link, but the one for the item itself), and let its page completely load in the browser.
3) Try running the Gather Information routine of the Logger Assistant program again.

In testing today, this simple sequence seemed to often allow the programs to then properly gather the information.  When a solution has been identified and a new version of the programs are available, information will be provided on download and installation instructions.
